Owen Dell, RLA, ASLA, Principal
Owen is an award-winning, internationally admired registered landscape architect, certified master water auditor, certified permaculture designer, author, and educator. He is the principal of Owen Dell and Associates, LLC in Corvallis, Oregon, specializing in sustainable landscape architectural services. Owen has been part of the landscaping profession since 1971, and he has been at the forefront of many of the practices of sustainable landscaping presently in use worldwide. Owen lectures around the U.S. and internationally on sustainable landscaping and related topics. He is the author of “How to Start a Home-Based Landscaping Business” and “Sustainable Landscaping for Dummies.” Owen has also been a regular contributor to many national and regional horticultural publications. He is the former co-host and co-creator of the popular Santa Barbara, California television series, “Garden Wise Guys.” Owen is member and former Chair of the Corvallis Civic Beauty and Urban Forestry Advisory Board and former Chair of the Garden Group of the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition’s Food Action Team. He is also a founding member of a task force working on emergency preparedness in the Corvallis area and a founding member of the Willamette Valley Regenerative Landscape Coalition.
Jeff Ard, BLA, Associate
Jeff Ard received a Landscape Architecture degree from the University of Oregon in 1988. He then worked for a decade as a consultant to public agencies in assisting with their landscape maintenance by developing policies, programs and designs to reduce their reliance on pesticides and routine maintenance. He co-founded the design-build firm Habitats, Inc. of Eugene, Oregon, where he was a principal managing partner and licensed landscape contractor from 1997 to 2009. The focus at Habitats was on sustainable landscape design, construction and native habitat restoration, in addition to home design and construction. He currently does freelance work in landscape design, consultation and management and is an Associate with the Corvallis-based landscape architecture firm, Owen Dell and Associates, LLC. Jeff has a wide range of experience in residential, commercial and public landscape design, construction, and management; natural area habitat restoration; IPM policy and program development for parks and public works departments and national forests. He also has a background in rainwater harvesting and thermal weed control. His work at Owen Dell and Associates has included collaboration on the Three Waters Project at Corvallis First Alternative Co-op, the Schoolyard Farms Rainwater Harvesting Project in Milwaukie, the Philomath Firewise Demonstration Garden, the North Albany Park Master Plan, and numerous residential projects. Jeff’s expertise in Pacific Northwest native and compatible plants, habitat design, rainwater harvesting systems, and CAD drafting are particularly valuable.
